Breathing Underwater: Drums, Songs And Stories About The Sea
This flexible school assembly program explores the human and natural history of the sea. This is an extremely “age adjustable” program.
Some of the songs in the program, “Sharks”, “Navigate” and “I Am The Humpback Whale” were written with Elementary school students.
“I Am The Humpback Whale”:
“Sharks”:
Others such as “The Silkie” honor centuries old traditions of Irish, Scottish, Scandinavian and Inuit cultures with a transformational message that appeals to all ages.
“The Silkie”:
“The Ballad of Nathaniel Bowditch” and “Grace O’Malley: The Irish Pirate Queen” celebrate actual historical figures to bring history alive.
“Sail Away: The Balled of Nathaniel Bowditch”:
In addition to Mark Shepard’s sparkling original songs, are spoken stories such as the Inuit tale, “Skeleton Woman” and the Siberian creation myth,
“Raven Stops The Rain”.
As you’ll hear, the spoken folk tales enlist audience members to participate by contributing cool sound FX with their own voices and bodies in addition to Mark’s SFX instruments.
