This is a program I did on June 16, 2016 at the Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School in Cherry Valley NY. I did an assembly for the younger students first, (k-2) and then a second program for the 3rd through 5th graders.
For obvious reasons with the younger students I didn’t talk about my ancestor David Ogden, who as a 15 year old kid managed to avoid getting massacred in the Cherry Valley Massacre during the American Revolutionary War. Interestingly enough, I found out later that the 4th graders had just that morning visited the Cherry Valley Museum to learn about all that… so my telling of my family story worked in pretty well. I love when stuff like that happens spontaneously.
Please remember there was no professional camera crew. Just a camera set up on the side of the stage so that it wouldn’t be in the way of the audience. Disciplining myself to record and then watch every single one of my shows has been one of the greatest tools to improving my programs. I share them with you so that you can see that I’m a real person creating real programs for real students at real schools. How else can you evaluate whether I’m right for your next assembly? I think slick professional demos can be misleading.
Anyway, enough of that! Here’s the program:
1.01 Pre Show Thoughts
1.02 Overtone Singing
1.03 The Pool Rap with the full story of how my sister painted me ORANGE!
1.04 Sharks
1.05 Porcupine Ice Cream
1.06 Coyote and Cicada (Native American Trickster Tale)
2.01 Why I’m in Love With Cherry Valley and the True Story of David Ogden a Hero of the Revolutionary War
