Can Songs Change Your Life?

March 16, 2016 by Mark Shepard

361 lucky original sizeFor the past 40 years I have been writing songs. To date over 500 of them have chosen me to bring them through my neurology and voice out into the world…

I was inspired as a young boy by the notion folksinger Pete Seeger talked about: Songs can change the world.

His song, “We Shall Overcome” was sung thousands of times a Civil Rights demonstrations in the 1960’s. His peace song, “Where Have All The Flowers Gone” was part of the cultural awakening that turned against the Vietnam War.

But on a much, much smaller, closer to home scale, songs can help us change our own lives for the better.

As the father of 3 kids, I started writing kid songs and telling them bedtime stories, that eventually led to my DrumSongStory programs for schools. My kids are now grown up. But the songs keep pouring through me…

Today I want to share with you a pivotal song that does a lot more than entertain. It’s a song that communicates a key concept from Neuro Linguistics: The Power of Positive Presuppositions Presented In Questions…

Don’t be put off by the big words… This song is designed to get a very powerful, positive process embedded in your mind.

It’s the idea that the questions we ask actually have the power to cause our unconscious minds to filter the world in a more resourceful way.

It’s Song #361 “I’m Lucky” It was a featured part of the Play Letters To Daddy and I promise you that if you listen to it over and over again and get it “stuck” in your head, it will help you have a more positive outlook on life.

Seriously. Give it a try. (lyrics are below)

Song #361 | 2/14/2007

I kick around town, looking up and down
You know, I know my way around
Feel like I finally belong
I think about you, feeling brand new
And what the two of us could do
If we could sing this song…

If we could sing this…

Refrain
Ooo-eeeee I’m lucky!
Why is it easy today?
Ooo-eeeee I’m lucky!
Won’t you come out and play?

Glad I have eyes, glad I have hands
And a clean shirt and pants
And feet that wanna dance
Glad to be here, free of the fear
Feeling light and crystal clear
Ready to take a chance…

Get ready to take a…

Refrain

Life can be fast, as it flies past
And love takes time to grow
Sometimes, I’m at home alone
And all of it’s good, let go of the “shoulds”
And any impossibilities
As your wings catch the breeze!

As your wings catch the…

Refrain

Bridge: Why does it work out much better than you can possibly imagine?

Imagine…

Imagine…

Refrain:

Why does it work out much better than you can possibly imagine?
